One of the hardest leaps for many entrepreneurs to make is from being self-employed and working in their business to being a business owner who works ON their business.
In this episode of the New Business Podcast, Nathan Barry joins us to talk about how he made that leap.
Nathan got his start quite young; he learned code and design while in high school and continued to work side projects for the next few years. When he netted a $10,000 contract, he realized he could make a lot more money if he dropped out of school. So he left college for the wild world of freelancing.
When the economy tanked and his savings ran out, he took a job as the software manager. Even while he was working full-time, he was creating apps on the side.
Three years, he left his job and dove into the full-time world of blogging, audience building and making a living selling products online.
In this episode, you’ll learn about:
- How much his first ebook made in its first 24 hours.
- The core lessons he’s learned in the process of building his business.
- Why Nathan decided to NOT sell his products on Amazon.
- What day he made the most money and why.
- How to structure your pricing for maximum benefit for everyone.
- How he shifted his habit of ‘never finishing anything’, and the simple tool you can use too.
- And much, much more!

At this point, he had no clue how to build an audience or how to develop a sales strategy. He had a few thousand dollars in sales coming in from his apps every month, but he didn’t know how to grow those sales beyond $2k a month.
After studying many blogs and bloggers, he realized anyone succeeding online had one thing in common: they were teaching something of value to their audience. He decided he could do the same thing and decided to write a book. His book taught a subject he knew well: designing apps.
Once the book was ready to be launched, he set a monetary goal for the life of the book. To his surprise, he exceeded that goal in the first 24 hours of its launch.
In that moment he knew he couldn’t go back to freelancing! He saw the power of building a list and passive income. As he developed other books, he also learned the value in multiple package products so he could increase the knowledge he was sharing and the sales he could generate.
Today, Nathan continues to write ebooks and publishes several pricing package options for each. He has learned the core lessons that have allowed him to build a thriving personal brand out of a freelancing and ebook business – and at the same time, a flourishing online business or himself.
