Thank you so much for tuning in to today’s special episode; we’re celebrating our 100th episode AND 2 million downloads!
It’s clear that without you, my listeners and community none of this would be possible – so again, thank you for tuning in every week.
I’ve been podcasting since April 2010 – several shows. And I love it. Podcasting lends a personal touch not no other form of online content can duplicate – I mean, when you listen to one of my shows you are literally inserting me into your ears! That’s pretty personal!!!
Over the course of creating and producing my past and current shows I’ve learned a lot, and today I’m sharing my top ten podcasting lessons!
1. Be You, All The Time.
Just be you, let your brand show off who you really are and let your uniqueness come through. When you do you’ll attract an avid listener base attracted to your authentic self, and that will pay you back in spades!
2. Be original with your show itself.
Don’t copy what works for others, don’t use their one-liners or intro music. Just be yourself with your show, and chose your own format and your style that reflects you.
3. Mix It Up.
After you do have your format chosen, you can still opt to mix it up every now and again. I did this by adding a few solo shows here and there; I got great feedback from many of you about them so I continued doing them. You can use the same approach with your podcast.
4. Update Your Artwork.
I recently redid the design of this site and have gotten rave reviews for it. Make sure you’re updating the look and feel of your show and your site regularly too.
5. Be Consistent.
Whether you’re doing a podcast or a blog or video, or any other medium, be sure you are releasing content consistently. Your audience will be expecting to hear from you so don’t let them down!
6. Stay On Point.
If you’re choosing to talk about a particular topic with your guest on your show stick to that point. Your listeners are expecting to hear about that subject so be sure you’re meeting that expectation.
7. Be Seen To Sell.
Monetizing podcasts is a tough thing to do. So if you’re an author with a podcast be sure to mention your book. Or if you’re hosting an event be sure to talk about it every now and again so your audience knows the details. Your audience is listening in because they like you, they know you and they trust you; they’re going to want products and offerings you have so let them know regularly.
8. Celebrate Your Wins and Milestones.
With this show you and I have celebrated milestones along the way; it’s something you should do with your audience too. Be sure you take them along on your journey, they’ll want to be a part of it with you.
9. Market Your Archive Properly.
Of all the podcasting lessons on this page, I feel this is the most important for on-going growth of your show. This is a great way to increase your download numbers: post and share your old episodes regularly. I share the top 20-30% of my episodes on social media. Your old episodes are evergreen content that other people will get value from so share those shows regularly!
10. Thank Your Audience.
Whenever and however you get the chance to thank your audience. Without them you wouldn’t exist. Always remember there are literally hundreds, if not thousands, of other podcasts they could listen to in your niche. They chose to put you in their earbuds, and that’s meaningful. Thank them in person whenever you can, thank them via social media and any other way you can think of!
With that in mind I want to thank you again for being here. You keep me going and are the reason this show is made, I greatly appreciate each and every one of you! See you next week!
